Finding Time for Prayer as a Busy Mom
Hey, friend.
If you're anything like me, your days are a whirlwind of diaper changes, homeschooling (or school drop-offs), snack-making, laundry piles, and maybe—if you're lucky—a few minutes to sip your coffee before it turns cold. Life as a mom is beautifully chaotic, but let’s be real: it’s also exhausting.
In the middle of the noise, the to-do lists, and the never-ending demands, it’s so easy to push our faith to the back burner. We know we need that time with God. We want it. But some days, it feels impossible.
So how do we find time for prayer and reflection when life doesn’t slow down? Here are a few simple (and doable!) ways to stay connected with God in the middle of motherhood.
1. Shift Your Mindset—Prayer Isn’t One More Task
I used to think that prayer had to look a certain way—sitting quietly with my Bible open, and no distractions. (Wouldn’t that be nice?!) But prayer isn’t about a perfect setting; it’s about connection.
Instead of seeing prayer as something to check off your list, invite God into your day as it is. Pray while folding laundry. Talk to Him while driving the kids to practice. Whisper a quick prayer as you’re scrubbing dishes. When we shift our mindset, we realize there’s always space for Him in our busy lives.
2. Start Small and Be Consistent
If you’re in a season where a long morning devotional isn’t realistic, that’s okay. Start small. Maybe it’s reading one Bible verse in the morning or listening to a worship song while making breakfast. Maybe it’s setting a reminder on your phone to pause and say a short prayer.
It’s not about how much time you spend; it’s about consistently showing up. Little moments with God add up, and over time, they create a habit of connection.
3. Wake Up (Just a Little) Earlier
I know, I know. Sleep is sacred, and mornings are already a rush. But hear me out. Even waking up five minutes earlier can make a difference.
Set your alarm just a little earlier, and spend a few moments in prayer before the chaos begins. You don’t have to do an in-depth Bible study—just start your day by acknowledging God. Those few quiet minutes can set the tone for everything that follows.
4. Use Your “Alone Moments” Wisely
Ever find yourself waiting in the school pickup line? Sitting in the car before running into Target? Rocking a baby to sleep in the middle of the night? These “alone moments” are perfect for prayer.
Instead of scrolling social media, use those pockets of time to pray, journal, or just sit in silence and let God speak. You’ll be amazed at how even a few minutes can refresh your heart.
5. Pray WITH Your Kids
One of the best ways to make time for prayer is to include your little ones. Pray out loud with them at bedtime. Say a quick “thank you, Jesus” before meals. Teach them to pray for others.
Not only does this keep you accountable, but it also shows your kids what a real, everyday relationship with God looks like. And let’s be honest—sometimes their sweet little prayers are exactly what our weary hearts need to hear.
6. Give Yourself Grace
Listen, some days are just plain hard. Some days, the prayers feel rushed, distracted, or maybe don’t happen at all. That’s okay.
God isn’t keeping score. He knows your heart, your schedule, and your struggles. He sees you loving and serving your family, and He meets you right where you are.
So, friend, don’t let guilt keep you from coming to Him. Keep praying, keep seeking, and keep trusting that He is walking this crazy, beautiful, messy motherhood journey with you—every single step of the way.
